In short: The biologist quest consists of many single hand-ins with a long wait between them. The problem is not the collecting, it is the rhythm: the hand-in moves earlier every day and eventually lands in the middle of the night. The Auto-Biologist in BeaTzVision takes over exactly that part, provided the biologist window opens with a key on your server.
Why hand-ins get missed
In the biologist quest you hand in collected items one at a time, and a cooldown runs afterwards. On official servers that is around 22 hours; on private servers it is usually much shorter, on some only a few hours.
The tricky part is not the length, it is the drift. A 22-hour cooldown means the hand-in is due two hours earlier every day. After a few days it falls into working hours, shortly after into the night. That is exactly when it gets forgotten, and every forgotten round extends the quest by a full cycle.
It is not farming the items that decides the duration, it is how many hand-ins you miss. Someone who hits every cycle is weeks ahead of someone who plays twice as much.
How the Auto-Biologist works
The sequence is deliberately simple, because it has to deal with windows that look different on every server:
- Take focus. The bot brings the right game window to the front. Without that, in dual-client the key press happily lands in the wrong client.
- Open the window. It presses the key that opens the biologist window on your server.
- Find the hand-in button. Instead of blindly clicking a position, it searches the image for the button you captured. It does not look only once but waits briefly and checks repeatedly — on slow machines the window opens with a delay.
- Click and close. After the click, focus is forced again and the window is closed with the same key.
If the hand-in works, the full cooldown starts over. If the button is not found, the bot does not wait out the whole round but tries again after about 45 seconds. How the image recognition behind it works is covered in How BeaTzVision Works Internally.
There are two modes: the Auto-Biologist runs alongside while the bot farms normally. Bio mode does nothing but the biologist and cycles through all open windows. Both belong to the premium version.
Setting it up in four steps
- Open the biologist window in game. Note the key that opens it.
- Capture the hand-in button. Mark only the button, nothing around it. The more frame and background you include, the sooner detection fails after an interface update.
- Enter key and interval. Choose an interval slightly shorter than your server's cooldown.
- Watch it once. Let the first hand-in run while you sit next to it. If it works then, it works at night too.
What differs on private servers
Biologist systems differ from server to server more than almost anything else:
- Opening by key. Many servers have their own window with a hotkey. Where you have to walk to the NPC, the Auto-Biologist does not work.
- Different looks. The hand-in button differs with every interface. The capture is therefore valid only for that server, and BeaTzVision stores it there.
- Different cooldowns and chances. Many servers shorten the cooldown or raise the acceptance chance. Set the interval to that, not to the official values.
- Different items. Some servers rebuild the whole line. The table below applies to official servers and is only a reference point.
When it does not work
- Window does not open: wrong key stored, or another window had focus.
- Window open but no click: button not recognised. Capture it again, cropped tighter.
- No reaction at all: game runs as administrator, the bot does not. Start both the same way.
- Bot stalls with the window open: the closing key press was lost. That happens when the game window loses focus after the click.
More on cases like these is in the troubleshooting guide.
